The R88 includes a one color LCD display. The monitor has a ‘Race’ program to help motivate you to try and beat the computer. It also has a ‘Manual’ program which will allow you to just begin and row! Readouts include: 500m time, total time, total strokes, strokes per minute, calories, speed, distance and pulse*
*Requires an optional chest strap – not included with product
Flywheel and Resistance (Air and Magnetic)
Our indoor rowers have a unique feature which combines air and magnetic resistance. The R88 rower is equipped with 6 levels of resistance and can be adjusted manually with the resistance ‘dial’ located below the handle bar. The flywheel is also a fan which generates air as you pull. The first level is all air resistance and then the magnetic resistance is engaged at level 2 and beyond. The flywheel design minimizes noise while maximizing a smooth feel.
The R88 sits 15” (38.1 cm) from the floor.
Storage and Mobility
TheR88 features a quick release framelock mechanism, so you can easily fold the rower for storage. Built-in roller wheels on the front foot allow you to roll the machine into position.
Adjustable Footrests and Ergonomic Handle
The footrests on the R88 rower pivot as you rotate your foot. You can strap your feet in with the industrial grade velcro straps. (Footrests accommodate a wide range of shoe sizes.) Our comfortable, ergonomic handle features a 10 degree bend that allows you to row with a natural arm and hand position.
The Lifecore Rowers feature a ‘Belt Drive’ instead of a chain. Our philosophy is that a belt is quieter, no maintenance required, and reliable (same material as a car seat belt).
Our rower is equipped with a forged aluminum rail providing an industrial strength rail to ensure a smooth, gliding seat movement.
Our machines are well-built, reliable, and durable. Tough and built to last, our machines withstand any type of workout, used by athletes, Military, Cross-Fit, hotels, etc. We make sure our machines are easy to maintain which gives you the most for your investment.
For starters, the R88 is one of the lowest impact exercise machines on the market. You'll enjoy smooth, fluid motion without the stress on your knees and ankles. The ergonomic rowing handle provides a comfortable, efficient grip and the large foot beds secure your feet while simultaneously allowing your heels to move freely for more natural motion.
The R88 Rowing Machine is based on an extruded aluminum frame with solid steel support. So it has an ample 300 lb capacity. The fan and flywheel are also constructed of solid steel for the ultimate in durability.
Convenient Folding Design
Most of us don't have the room for a large piece of fitness equipment in our homes. The R88 Rower solves that problem with a simple folding design. A quick turn and pull of the lock pin allows the R88 to be folded up and out of the way.
Warranty and Money Back Guarantee
The R88 is covered by our limited two year warranty on parts and console and moving parts. Our warranty also includes a 90 day labor period for in-home repairs. View full warranty details. Your purchase is also covered by our 30-day, money back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with your indoor rower for any reason, you may return it to us within 30 days of shipment, and we will refund the cost of the machine to you. My Thoughts After A Year
I bought my rower last year. I've had time to work with it. I love the portability and strong construction of it. The smooth and fairly quiet action while rowing is really cool too. The bottom line is that it is a quality bit of workout gear and I'm proud to have as a part of my workout arsenal. I also have an elliptical (C980 since 2007) that have been a part of my nearly daily workout routine. I'm not training for any heavy competitions. I suffer from OA and these machines keep me from having to take NSAIDs everyday (actually, rarely, except for bad storms and very cold weather). I'd rate my rower a 5 star machine IF the seat were more comfortable. It is wide but very hard to sit on for more than 15 minutes. I use a gardening knee cushion to supplement. I'm now looking for a SPENCO pad like the one I have on my bicycle (12-speed racer from days of yore) to put on it so I can spend longer time periods on it. Developers, if you come up with something, let us know!
It's a Keeper
The R88 Rower is a very solid machine. I've had it for about a year and have already put lots of miles on it, but it still looks and feels basically brand new.
The only problem I've had is the end caps for the pedal bolts won't stay on during a workout. I've tightened them as much as I can, but they still won't hold. The end caps fall off and then the pedals are free to slide to the side off of the bolt.
The display is also a little weak and hard to read. But it's nice that it is battery operated and the machine doesn't have to be near an outlet and plugged in.
Otherwise it's really nice. It's quiet, smooth, sturdy, light enough that I can move it around easily, and it folds up nicely. And it provides a great workout. I highly recommend it!
New Member of the Fleet
I already have the LC980 Elliptical since 2007. Now the Rower is the newest member of my fleet of indoor exercise toys. Just like the elliptical, the rower is very well constructed and easy to assemble. It's operation is very smooth. Another notable thing is the well written instructions for assembling the rower, unlike many instructions I've had to read to assemble other things. Hats off to your technical writers! They write with the end user in mind! I also love the way it folds up easily and out of the way when I'm not using it.
This machine would have five stars if it weren't for the seat, though. A little bit better design with more padding would help. I would row a lot longer if the seat were more comfortable. I currently put extra padding on the seat to use it.
All in all, though, as with the elliptical that I've gotten thousands of miles of use from it, I expect to get the same kind of service out of the rower. By comparison with other machines, I get all of this at a very reasonable price. Thanks LifeCore!
I expect many years of use on this machine.
The R88 Rower is very well constructed and fairly simple to assemble. Five stars goes to the writers who wrote the assembly instructions. They were very clear, concise and spoke to the new owner. I've only had the rower for about two weeks and have put some serious time on it. The reason I chose the rower is because growing up, I used to row my grandfather's sabot to earn money. I enjoyed that activity and wanted to vary my exercise routine with an activity I can relate to. I already have the 980 Elliptical from LifeCore and have thousands of miles on it. Now I have two great machines to play with. The rower is quiet and smooth. I only gave it four stars because: 1. I haven't had the machine for very long; 2. The seat design could be improved on. It kind of hurts my butt after a while. A Spenco covering would be nice. I'm going to go find one for my seat.
Good workout, Smooth Machine
This rower provides a very satisfactory workout. I went from 5star to 4star due the options on the LCD screen. The 99 is better in that regard but there is no difference in the feel of the rower. For the money...best rower on the market.
I bought this machine after a good amount of research on the web and conversations with colleagues. I am very happy with this product. It gives me a great workout, fits in a small area and folds up when I need it to. The computer tracks my time/strokes and spped. It is a much better quality product and much better workout than my old rowing machine.
great flexibility, well made and designed
"My husband's surgeon recommended he purchase a rower after his knee replacement surgery. He mentioned that other patients were pleased with LifeCORE products. We did some reseach and decided on this one. My husband isn't ready to use the race option but is challenged by that goal/option. This rower is solid and is easy to use and store. It is comfortable for him at 6' 2" and for me at 5'2" which is a real plus. We feel this rower provides great flexiblility at a reasonable price and we would recommend it without reservation."
easy to use quick to assemble
My favorite feature is the motivation I get from 500m time. I try to beat my time every 5 workouts as a way to show improvement. This machine has helped to shape my lats and increase my lung capacity. Very nice Rower
This rower is like driving a BMW compared to driving a Yugo. by far the most well built rower I have ever seen or used. Very sturdy, smooth and durable
I am impressed with the workout this Rower provided
I love using this Rower due to the great workout that it provides.
I don't have a lot of space in my house so I bought this rower because it is small and easy to store. I figured the smaller size would make the workout lighter, but that was not the case at all.
I get a great workout every time and unlike other Rowers my knees and ankles feel great after I use it!
